On Sunday (24-05-26), a Pakistani PhD student at DTU, sadly lost his life following a tragic incident at Himmelsøen in Roskilde.
The heartbreaking news deeply affected the Pakistani community across Denmark, especially students and families living abroad. In response, community members from different cities quickly came together to support Abdullah’s family through fundraising, coordination efforts, and practical assistance.
Within a short period of time, the initiative became a strong example of community solidarity, compassion, and collective action during a difficult moment.

What started as a few urgent messages quickly turned into a large community driven effort. Friends, families, students, professionals, volunteers, and community members from different cities joined hands to support the cause.
Messages spread rapidly through WhatsApp groups, social media, and personal networks. Many people donated financially, while others helped coordinate, communicate, guide, and support the process behind the scenes.
This collective response reminded everyone that a real community is built not only during celebrations, but especially during moments of hardship.
“Sometimes humanity appears quietly through ordinary people choosing to stand beside each other.”
To support Abdullah’s family and assist with urgent matters, three MobilePay Boxes were created as part of the emergency fundraising effort alongside a GoFundMe campaign.
The response from the community was overwhelming.
Through the combined community efforts via MobilePay and GoFundMe, a total of 191,254 DKK was raised within a very short period of time.
Round 1 of the fundraising has now officially been closed.
At the moment, the team is working on understanding the further practicalities before collecting anything more. Community members are also requested not to send any additional private MobilePay donations at this stage.
The collected funds will be transferred directly to Abdullah’s family to support them during this difficult period.
The fundraising campaigns will now be closed, and the collected amount will be transferred directly to the family to support them during this difficult period.
The Pakistan Embassy in Copenhagen also played an important role by supporting coordination and assisting with the necessary arrangements.
The Embassy confirmed that the Government of Pakistan would take responsibility for the repatriation of Abdullah’s body to Pakistan along with related expenses.
A special thanks to Mr. Ali Sattar (HOC) and the Pakistan Embassy team for their guidance, and responsiveness.
“The fundraising initiative undertaken by the community is a highly commendable gesture and may greatly help in supporting the bereaved family during this difficult time. We sincerely appreciate the compassion, unity, and generosity demonstrated by the community.”

This effort would not have been possible without the support of many individuals working sincerely behind the scenes.
Special appreciation goes to:
Every contribution, whether financial, logistical, or emotional, made a meaningful difference.
One of the most positive outcomes of this effort was seeing how quickly the community connected and mobilized to support an urgent cause.
To continue strengthening communication and community support in the future, the WhatsApp group created during this campaign will remain active. The purpose is to share important community updates, urgent information, support initiatives, and helpful resources for Pakistanis living in Denmark.
We welcome everyone who wishes to stay connected and contribute positively to the community.

This initiative was never only about fundraising.
It was about compassion.
It was about standing together.
It was about reminding a grieving family that they are not alone.
And above all, it was a reminder that even in difficult times, communities become stronger when people choose humanity over indifference.
JazakAllah Khair.
